| About Long Island Bonsai Society | ||||||||
The Long Island Bonsai Society is recognized by the
IRS as a non-profit educational group, whose goal is the enhancement
and expansion of knowledge of the art of bonsai. To this purpose,
the society presents the finest bonsai professionals from all over
the world at its monthly meetings at the beautiful
Planting Fields Arboretum
in Oyster Bay. The society has been functioning for over thirty
years with an average membership of approximately one hundred fifty
individuals with all levels of experience. The most skilled members
are put to use at a special workshop preceding the main lecture,
held primarily for the benefit of beginners where instruction in the
basics is given. It is at this time that members can discuss their
problems and receive expert advice. During the main lecture the
speaker demonstrates his or her ability to create a bonsai in a
particular style or teaches a particular technique to achieve his
purpose. At the conclusion of the demonstration the creation is
